With LARA the remote maintenance of servers via common communication networks will reach a new dimension. Not only that LARA (up to 4 units in 1U) is the smallest IP extender-device in the marketplace; LARA enhances simple KVM IP Extension by adding basic remote management features like Power management, serial to IP extension or IPMI based system management. This makes LARA the first System over IP extender.

Thereby LARA provides the highest level of flexibility. Independent from the system software of a server or a special client LARA fits easily into existing IT-Environments (particularly KVM switching installations) and allows rapid installation. Using the LAN, ISDN, DSL or an analogue modem, almost every kind of data communication scanario is feasible.

Operation Senarios

The device allows highly available server control, maintainance, failure recovery or remote support, regardless the geographical location of the administrator, just as being onsite. Even in case of network failure the server can be accessed at any time out of band via ISDN-, modem dialup or a second separate service LAN. Either for a single server or using a large matrix KVM-Switching System for a big number of machines, using LARA literally faces no limits. The unit allows local control of Keyboard, Video and Mouse as well as multiple users remotely at the same time.



Security

The comprehensive security concept complies to nearly every possible application in remote system access using SSL. LARA guards every kind of data transfer with the industries most secure encryption algorithms. A unique user certificate can be generated, established and signed at a trust centre of choice and then uploaded onto LARA to efficiently prevent "Man-in the Middle"- attacks or spying. A sophisticated user management allows up to 255 individual user profiles witch can be consequently fine tuned at group and single user level. Rights can be assigned, changed or taken at any time remotely. Irreversible data logging provides complete and unbroken documentation on any remote or local event.



Independance

LARA neither needs complicated configuration at the server side, nor at the local client station. LARA supports accelerated input devices as well as non- accelerated. It can display all common VESA plots in text and graphic mode up to a resolution of 1280 x 1024. LARA operates completely server OS independent and does "not eat" CPU time at all. At the client side is just a JAVA enabled standard Web-browser needed to fully control and access remote servers.
